The LBSC Memorial Bowl 2007 at Abbeydale

This prestigious event, known popularly as the Curly Bowl (after the late Curly Lawrence, the prolific miniature loco designer) is held annually to acknowledge the contribution Curly made to our hobby.

The event is not an exhibition but a practical demonstration of LBSC designed locos' working on the track. Each entrant drives their loco, followed by the three judges. The cup is awarded to the best performance bearing in mind the aims and objectives of the design.

Here is a 3½" gauge LNER 4-4-2 Atlantic to Curly's Maisie design - model engineering at its best! Begun in 1938 and finally completed by its present owner in 1999, this loco has a Kennion boiler, vaccum braking, headlampd and cab side screens. Judges and competitors chat in the background.

Here we see one of the Atlantics being prepared for its run.

It's the Chief Judge's turn to drive 'Scarab'.
